Most employment rights such as the right to claim unfair dismissal or a redundancy payment are only afforded to those who are employed on a contract of employment. It is usually easy to tell if somebody is an employee. The relationship will be characterised by certain factors such as the person will work for the same employer every day, will have set working hours, receive  sick pay and holiday pay, a job title and be entitled to a fixed salary or salary and commission as well as certain other benefits.
